Showcase your architecture at the RWA

The Architecture Centre partners with RWA Annual Open Exhibition

The Architecture Centre is delighted to announce that we are partnering with The Royal West of England Academy (RWA) on this year’s Annual Open Exhibition.

We invite architects, designers and artists to submit architectural content to the Open Exhibition, and particularly welcome submissions from our friends, members and supporters.

“The RWA welcomes submissions of models, videos, photographs, digitally generated imagery as well as the more traditional drawings, paintings, sculpture.” Stewart Geddes (President of the RWA)

You are welcome to submit existing work with a deadline of 21 August.

Since the 1850s, the RWA Annual Open Exhibition has brought together the most exciting work by artists from across the country and beyond. Annually positioning architecture as a key component to the exhibition’s subject matter, the 2018 exhibition will re-enforce architecture as one of the four corner stones of RWA, with a full room of the exhibition dedicated to architecture and design.

Speaking of this refocus toward architecture, and the new partnership with the Architecture Centre, RWA Director Alison Bevan said;

“The RWA has always had architecture, as well as fine art, at its heart, and yet for many years the Annual Open Exhibition has not reflected this. We’d love to dedicate a space to architecture this year – following on from a building-themed room last year – and very much hope that we see some great examples of architects’ work in all media”

Exhibiting in the prestigious exhibition is both an honour and a great opportunity for emerging and established artists and designers. There are also significant prizes to be awarded as part of the Open Exhibition including the Watercolour Prize, the Sculpture Prize and the Creativity Award.

“Architecture is not only an incredibly creative artform, but one which has a huge impact on our lives. The built environment is a constant muse. As architecture evolves with the use of technology, we’re delighted to celebrate both modern creativity and the long renowned artistry and penmanship of architects and designers. We encourage all architects, young and old, to submit their work to the Open Exhibition.” Dr Anna Rutherford, Director, Architecture Centre

The Open Exhibition will run from 7 October – 25 November 2018. As part of the Architecture Centre and RWA partnering, the Centre will be hosting a private view evening and tour of the exhibition on Monday 15 October. Exhibitors of the architecture submissions will be celebrated at this new partner event.
