Shaping Schools

Hear cross-sector debate on addressing Bristol’s primary school.

In 2013 Bristol faced an acute shortage of primary school places requiring temporary, retrofitted and new school buildings to be made available urgently. In the race to meet demand, how do we ensure design doesn’t ‘drop off the agenda’?

In November 2013, the Architecture Centre brought together inspiring speakers from the design, education and cultural fields to stimulate a cross-sector discussion and debate. Chaired by Charles Wilson, Bristol Urban Design Forum (Chair), the videos below capture the panel debate and speakers as follows:

  • Section 1 – Introduction
  • Section 2 – Cindy Walters, Walters and Cohen Architects
  • Section 3 – Caroline Paradise, Nightingale Associates/ HEAD project
  • Section 4 – Juno Hollyhock and Merrick Denton Thompson, Learning through Landscapes
  • Section 5 – Craig White, White Design
  • Section 6 – Ian Bell, Bristol City Council
  • Section 7 – Justin Hoye, Head teacher, St John’s Primary School
  • Section 8 – Audience questions and panel discussion

This event was funded by the ESRC as part of the 2013 Festival of Social Science.
