When We Lived in Modern Times

Listen to the Centre's debate on the good, the bad and the ugly of twentieth century housing.

Hear Bristol City Council’s Historic Environment Officer, Pete Insole and author of Concretopia & Outskirts, John Grindrod give their take on the good, the bad and the ugly of twentieth century housing during the Architecture Centre’s talk When We Lived in Modern Times.

The talk hosted in the Arnolfini on 12 July 2017 reviewed 20th century housing developments of inter-war and postwar years – At a time when the country had little money our towns and cities were reshaped providing housing for all. Whilst some of the housing provided was successful the drive for fast construction produced failures.
