“We are delighted to be able to draw on the expertise of the Architecture Centre and Bristol Urban Design Forum in setting up this new panel. In tandem with the Heritage Action Zone, the Weston Design Forum will provide valuable opinion and guidance to support our ambitions for revitalising Weston and complement our vision.” Rachel Lewis, Regeneration Manager at North Somerset Council

North Somerset Council has set out a bold vision for the town centre, with the ambition to create outstanding places for quality urban living, business and learning. Following the recent award of Heritage Action Zone status for Weston and with new developments now being planned, the council commissioned the Architecture Centre to set up a dedicated Design Forum for the town.
The Weston-super-Mare Design Forum provides a dedicated panel that meets quarterly to review and advise on emerging strategies and development plans, working with North Somerset Council and other stakeholders to ensure that new developments are of the highest quality. The panel comprises built environment experts from a wide range of disciplines including planning, architecture, urban design, landscape and sustainability.
Panellists include Louis Rice (UWE), Nigel Dyke (Alec French Architects), Andy Gibbins (ARUP), Bill Gething (UWE), Sue Illman (Illman Young) and Andy Cockett (Nathaniel Lichfield). The panel is chaired by Nick Childs, former chair of the Bristol Urban Design Forum (BUDF), who was instrumental in setting up the BUDF. Nick is also Chair of Trustees at the Architecture Centre and a Director of Childs + Sulzmann Architects.
