The Architecture Award will be announced at a special exhibition evening on Monday 15 October. Set to be the Architecture Centre’s focal event of the year, we welcome all of our members, partners and friends to join us on this special evening where design and culture are celebrated.
The evening will also be an opportunity to hear about the curation of the Open Exhibiton from RWA President Stewart Geddes and the selection of the Award by UWE Head of Architecture Elena Marco and Chair of the Architecture Centre Nick Childs.
About the Architecture Award
This Architecture Award will be the first in the RWA’s 166 year history to celebrate architecture and design, and is the result of a renewed commitment to architecture in the RWA’s exhibition content following a partnership with the Architecture Centre. The new award sits alongside prestigious prizes including the Watercolour Prize, the Sculpture Prize and the Creativity Award. The recipient will be announced at the private view on the evening of Monday 15 October, hosted by the Architecture Centre and sponsored by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Forbo Flooring.
About the Architecture focus in RWA Open Exhibition
This year a section of the 2018 exhibition will be dedicated to the discipline of architecture. Speaking of this refocus, RWA Director Alison Bevan said;
“The RWA has always had architecture, as well as fine art, at its heart, and yet for many years the Annual Open Exhibition has not reflected this. We’re pleased to dedicate a space to architecture this year and very much look forward to showcasing some great examples of architects’ work in all media.”
Exhibiting in the South West’s largest Open Exhibition is a great honour as Chair of the Architecture Centre, Nick Childs, explains;
“We are so pleased to be contributing to the RWA’s long standing celebration of creative talent in the region. We have some of the best architects in the country working in the South West. The way architectural ideas are illustrated through sketches, drawings and models will make an exciting contribution to the Annual Open Exhibition. We are delighted to be reviving the tradition of exhibiting the finest in architectural illustration amongst the best work of South West artists.”
